My Work
-Co-sponsored the older Vermonters Act that guides the agencies who provide services to older Vermonters and put our state on the path to being the best state to grow old in.
-Lead sponsor of the legislation that created the Office of the Child, Youth and Family Advocate. This office will work across state agencies to make sure youth in the custody of the state transition to adulthood successfully. By identifying best practices and looking at systemic issues within Vermonts child welfare system we can improve outcomes by supporting the employees and foster families who are providing care for children across the state.
-CoChair of the Older Vermonters Caucus that brings together legislators and advocates to address the issues and solve complex problems of caring for older Vermonters in their homes and communities.
-I serve on two gubnatorial point boards - SerVermont, the Vermont commission on national and community services and the Vermont Commission on Alzheimer's and Related Disorders.
Why Dan?
Making sure Vermont is the best state to grow old in.
Strengthening our communties through service
Taking care of older Vermonters is important work. It is what I do every day as director of an AmeriCorps Senior program that engages volunteers in the service of others providing companionship, home delivered meals and wellness programs. I have championed bills that make sure the agencies that provide services to older vermonters have the financial resources they need to provide services and make Vermont the best place to grow old.
Volunteering and service to one's community is the hallmark of Vermont values. Over the years I have served on non-profit and municipal boards and run volunteer-based programs in our community that have helped many people. This is what keeps me going. It is my way of continuing to strengthen our community.
Working Vermonters and Families
When Amy and I got married we moved to Hyde Park where our daughter Adriana was born. We worked, often two jobs at that time, to make ends meet. We moved to Wolcott after we had a son, Ian. I know what it takes to balance jobs, day care, and and family in Lamoille County. Our children are now grown and are starting careers of their own.
I have shown my colleges in Montpelier how
Lamoille County gets things done
